Workshops

General Information

The Voice Confidence workshops are suitable for all ages and abilities.

The workshops are half-day sessions of 2.5 hours of up to 30 children in school/college, accompanied by a minimum of one member of staff to comply with safeguarding policies.

The space required is to be large enough for up to 30 chairs, ideally set out in a
semi-circle, sufficiently spaced and with access to a whiteboard or flipchart.

All young people will receive a ‘Voice Confidence – Discover Your Potential’
resource sheet and pencil.

Workshop #1

I am My Voice

Playful and interactive, this “I am My Voice” workshop will support young people to learn about the potential of their individual voice when speaking aloud and be able to share the work with their peers to improve their self-esteem.

Time will be given for reflection for young people to speak to one another about the workshop, highlighting the work’s significance. 

Young people will:

  1. Discover how their voice is physically made and how to use it healthily.
  2. Understand its wellbeing potential.
  3. Gain voice confidence, in their sound and when expressing themselves clearly, which will allow them to be more actively listened to.

Schools/Colleges will:

  1. Enhance its commitment to the Speaking and Listening curriculum.
  2. Raise awareness of the importance of voice confidence in its community.
  3. Provide a CPD learning opportunity for the schoolteacher(s) in attendance.

Workshop #2

Performing Words

Fun and motivational, this “Performing Words” workshop will equip young people to learn about their individual human toolkit when speaking aloud poetry and/or prose and be able to share the work with their peers to improve their self-esteem in performance.

Poetry and/or prose ideas will be offered. Alternatively, if there is a theme the school/college thinks is more relevant, different texts may be suggested.

Young people will:

  1. Discover how their voice works, in conjunction with their
    body and mind, and how it produces sound.
  2. Understand which ‘tools’ can
    be used to change and play around with their sound to reflect mood and meaning when speaking.
  3. Learn how to manage performance anxiety and gain voice confidence.

Schools/Colleges will:

  1. Enhance its commitment to the Speaking and Listening curriculum.
  2. Raise awareness of the importance of voice confidence in its community.
  3. Provide a CPD learning opportunity for the schoolteacher(s) in attendance.

Speech and Drama Lessons

Subject to availability, Voice Confidence collaborates with schools and colleges to set-up regular peripatetic speech and drama lesson provision, such as: LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art), Trinity College London, English Speaking Board (ESB), New Era Academy of Drama and Music (NEA).
